[~~Accidental~~ Action]

[Anyone around the outskirts of Luceti's village today might notice a girl wandering around, avoiding high traffic areas. There are three reasons that they might notice her.

1. Her expression is guarded, but she can't keep out some hints of being very afraid.

2. Half the time she is walking shoulders hunched inward, with nervous steps while she keeps looking out for people seeing her--that is, a walk that is trying so hard to be unnoticed that everyone notices. The other half of the time, she's trying to sneak between trees and behind buildings with such stealth as to be even more obvious than the walk--Solid Snake, she is not.

3. ...She looks a little ridiculous. The outer layer is a dress something like this, only hiked up to not trip her up as she's about five inches shorter than the intended wearer. But she's also wearing a coat over it and a second dress underneath due to the cold, and it's fairly obvious she is since the collars are designed differently. Speaking of that, it's hanging rather loosely on her there, since it was made for someone who is anime!racked. She's kept decent by the fact that she's still wearing the New Feather dress underneath those, which covers up the rest of her to her neck. Also, unlike in the icon, her hair is tucked up inside of an unusual hat. She's probably even in bad footwear for the weather, but it's impossible to tell since the dresses are trailing in the snow. EDIT: ...Also, she probably has hidden her wings under some scarf.

She's trying to not attract attention, but this is not obvious.

...Oh yeah, forgot. She has her journal with her, but she hasn't opened it and she's holding it so that her name is hidden by her body.]

[ooc: Also, because I imagine that any of them would be inclined to get her out of this somewhat odd get-up and she's not likely to trust anyone else, any Ferines threads probably take place after any others.

I see. [If she keeps giving it to Fenfen, no doubt. Fenimore takes another sip, then:] ...You really seem like you've settled in here.

[Shirley stares down into her teacup.] It's... been a while since I was brought here.

The house looks like it. ...How long?

[She had been expecting quite a while, but not that long. It's particularly uncomfortable since Fenimore still is a bit iffy on this idea of "outside time" and is still more likely to believe that she had just been held in some kind of weird stasis (though she wouldn't know the word for it).] Nine?

It was early spring when I first arrived... the snow had just finished melting.

[Fenimore's mouth opens to say something, probably a meaningless interjection, but it shuts without saying anything. She's speechless for a moment.] And you've been staying here all this time...?

[Shirley looks down at her cup of tea.]

The first day I came here... Walter helped me find the village, and this house. That -- ... that was when Madam Musette was still here.

[Fenimore leans forward, looking concerned.]

Who's Madam Musette? You mentioned her earlier, too.

Madam Musette is... [Shirley hesitates, not sure how much or how little she should say about Musette. She doesn't want to say too much; Musette always valued her privacy, even back home.] A... citizen of Werites Beacon. She was helping me write a proposal that would make a path for the Ferines to safely come to the Legacy.

Ah, well... it's not hard to become close to her. Madam Musette is very kind... after -- after the Rite of Accession, she invited me to live with her in Werites Beacon...

[...There is a bunch she would comment on here, but the last part kind of grabs her attention. She hadn't made it far enough in the guide to find out that people can be brought from the past or future, and she hasn't quite grasped just how much time is messed with in Luceti.] ...Huh? After--?

[Oh, right. Shirley had tried the Rite before, hadn't she? But she hadn't thought Shirley had been on the Legacy then....] I thought you had lived with Senel after the Rite.

[Shirley shakes her head.]

No... well, yes. ... I lived with Senel after my first Rite, but... I'm talking about the Rite of Accession where you were with me, Fenimore. [An anxious look crosses her face.] You... you do remember that, don't you?

Yeah, but...Shirley, there hasn't been an after yet.

Um, well... [How does she explain this diverging timeline stuff? Especially when she doesn't understand it very well herself...]

[After a moment of watching Shirley with a confused look, she wonders if she had fainted and missed a few hours.] And why would you even live with Orerines after the Rite, anyway? I thought you were going to live in the village.

[Shirley considers her wording very, very carefully, before speaking.]

It... was decided that -- I would be better able to help the Ferines from Werites Beacon.

[A brief expression of worry crossed Fenimore's face. Not that she had stopped feeling worried since she arrived, but the worry had increased. The most likely reason she could think that that would happen is if the Rite had failed, but...she couldn't say that so bluntly. She tries to cover her nerves; she wants to bite down on her thumb worriedly, but she stops herself. Instead, she leans her elbow on the table, her fingers curled and thumb slightly extended a little ways from her mouth.]

...What happened?

[Shirley bites her lip and looks down at her tea. When it comes down to it... she doesn't want to tell Fenimore that she died, especially when she's already so confused and upset. In Shirley's mind, it's best if they simply don't mention it at all. As such, she is going to describe the events at a bare minimum. When she looks up, it's with a smile; it's a cover for the more painful emotions she has in regards to the event, but she's hoping that Fenimore will be too surprised by what she's going to say next to call her on it.]

I... succeeded in the Rite of Accession, and -- and awakened as the Merines.

[When Shirley bites her lip and looks down, Fenimore prepares for the worst. She's already wracking her brain for ways to reassure Shirley if the Rite had failed by the time Shirley spoke.]

[At first, Fenimore looks surprised. By the time she realizes, she is already too busy inwardly berating herself for letting the surprise show--Shirley didn't need to know that Fenimore had felt some of the doubts the other Ferines had expressed!--to question why Shirley had been so reluctant to speak about what seemed to be only good news.] You--

[For the first time since she arrived, she really smiles--sincerely, openly, and more animatedly than before. If the table hadn't been between them, she would have hugged Shirley, or grabbed her hands: something to express her excitement directly. If she weren't still so off-balance from arriving in Luceti, she would have done it anyway, table be damned. Instead, she leans forward.] Shirley, that's wonderful! I knew you could do it!
