[Written/Accidental Voice]

[Fenimore is still not very adept with the journal system, so she spent about ten minutes trying to turn on the voice feature before eventually giving up. Unbenownst to her, though, she actually did turn it on, so the following is a mixture of voice (normal text) and written (italics).]

[sigh] This isn't working. Shirley will know. I'll ask her later. Now where did I...?

[A few moments later, printed words appear. They look pretty unpracticed, being both slow and somewhat messy. Strikes are basically scribbled out, but since she didn't put much effort in people can probably read them with a little effort.] Is there someone named Can I talk to Charlotte, I have something for you.

...Did that work? Hmm. ...Oh, yeah.

I also have If someone lost a hat [There is a pause, with a couple of inkdrops falling on the page.]

[After a moment, she picks up Seles's hat and turns it around in her hands.] What should I call it? I can't say it looks like a pancake....

brown, ridic round hat, I have found it.

No, more like a--[and she can't believe she's going to attempt this]--a thing that blows hot air and is an essential tool of any trend-conscious young woman. Or, err, man. I guess. [After all, she's met plenty of impressively coiffed menfolk in Luceti.]

Well, Fenimore. I assume that by now someone's chucked the guide your way?

Yeah, someone tossed that stupid thing at me when I arrived half a week ago.

Jeez, sorry. I just figured, because of the whole journal-recording-mistake that you were one of the more...rookier rookies.

It's usually what people do when they make a mistake.

[Frowny voice.] So, you know pancakes but not hair-dryers. Sounds like quite the world. At least breakfast'd be worth it.

That just makes it lose its impact when you really mean it.

...What do pancakes have to do with hair-dryers? I can't imagine the hot air is that hot.

No where near that hot. But pancakes have a certain modern conveniency flavour to them.

They might be. I don't know how long people have been making them. [Modern: (adjective) Pertaining to the current time and style. She doesn't get which kind of modern you speak of.]

You know what? I can see that this is taking us no where fast. So how about a little game of let's-change-the-subject. Found a handy dandy place to stay, yet?

Let's. Yes, a friend of mine was here when I arrived...for nine months even though I saw her last thing I remember before I got here. ...So I'm staying with her.

Time wackiness. It's a bit of a theme around this place. But it's usually a good thing to have some people you know around--helps with the shock.
